It all started with four friends’ desire to acquire part of the Rio Escalante-Chacocente Wildlife Refuge in order to enjoy and preserve it. They soon discovered how threatened the Refuge was from hunting, poaching, and illegal wood harvesting, and devised a strategy to protect it. The four friends formed a partnership, Land Conservation and Investment (LCI). They purchased additional property as it became available in order to protect and sustainably develop a small part of it as a way of sharing it with like-minded people, thus ensuring its permanent survival.
